, the rain started pouring pretty good here. yeah, but steve's been talking about it all morning. we're not expecting huge rain amounts from this storm but the ground is saturated from the storms and some commuters and residents are not taking any chances. we talked by a lumber company in mill valley. owners and employees putting sandbags there and keeping them there because of the rain. this store was flooded past sunday. storeowners tell us after this incident over this past weekend with the recent storms that they just didn't want to take any chances. >> worried about tomorrow morning? >> hopefully, it will be not that bad. >> reporter: we did drive by the store early this morning and it looks like the sand bags are working right there right now. the rain is continuing to pour down here and hopefully the sand bags will prevent any flooding here. on a side note as we take a look at -- i think the biggest concern is the roadways. tara's been talking about it all morning. there were three accidents on the 80. if you are heading out this morning, take it easy on the roadways and slow
here is tara. >> thanks, steve. >>> our roadways are looking pretty clear. still early in the morning. got a little bit of construction going on at the bay bridge. right now we will take a live look at the san mateo bridge. you can see traffic flowing pretty well in both directions. 880 same story. no delays. 4:29 let's head back to the desk. >>> we begin with developing news this morning. police in berkeley are investigating the fatal shooting on a bicycle. it happened shortly after 11:30 last night. alex savidge joins us now from the crime scene on sacramento street. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning, to you. lieutenant out here on scene told me it's much too early to say what the motive may have been for this deadly shooting. we do know a man was riding his bike here late last night when she was shot to death. you can see the investigation still ongoing. the shooting happened right outside of long fellow middle school. just about an hour ago we watched as the coroner took away the man's body. he hasn't yet been identified here. police were called out arou
pam cook, steve has the weather and it is definitely going to get colder tomorrow. >> well, it is colder out there already for some. the fog is pushing the system and it is a weak system but rain is and coming down and we have 50s and 60s, here is sal. >>> the bridge does look good heading to the peninsular and no major problems on this bridge or the dumbarton. it looks like on highway 24 between walnut creek and oakland. let's go back to the desk. >>> daily city and skyline boulevard is closed on john daily boulevard because there is an accident. news chopper 2 is flying over and several police agencies are there now. brian flores is headed there as we speak and we will bring you more as we get more information. >>> an apartment fire has left six people homeless. these are pictures out at the scene where you can see crews are still there. the fire started a couple of hours on copperfield avenue near the bart station. now some units on both floors of the building were gutted. woman one said she saw -- one woman said she saw fire and firefighters were able to keep the fire f

. 7:07. let's go to -- let's go to steve. >>> this is a colder pattern. this may last a while. 7, 10, 15 day -- 15 days. there's a pattern with stronger systems coming in. christmas week could be kind of rainy and snowy as well. i almost had to choke there for a second. i'm okay now. coming down from cape mendocino there could be some snow. we need that because the snow level was way too high. but that's changing. there's not a lot of life with the system. heard from steve bridges up in the keys, 2 inches at lake level. it will be more of a powdery. you can see some scattered showers around, nothing widespread or anything. just kind of -- there was some towards orinda, san rafael, berkeley, emeryville, san mateo, redwood city, heading over towards the hayward side. also along highway 1 towards woodside, skyline, 84. san gregoireia and then towards the santa cruz mountains. there's been some around san jose. we'll keep an eye on that. 37 santa rosa. 44 napa. these continues will continue to drop. still nom so 50s -- still some 50s. this is a very fast-moving pattern, and it can be --
spots. here is weather, steve? >>> clouds increasing later on and low clouds mainly out to the valley but the coastal fog is also coming back. we will get some clouds and an overnight brief rain. this is a really thin system but it is going to turn much colder. overnight lows will be if i having more rain and cooler weather is definitely in the mix. our system is here and by the time it arrives it will not do much but this is not a rainy pattern and the snow will be more of a powdery type by the time it gets here. 50s for many and 60s with a brief rain and much colder. 36 in napa, 39 in santa rosa and petaluma and santa rosa is reporting fog so be careful. get used to these readings low clouds, fog, chilly lows or cold lows. mid-50s and very low 60s. >> brief morning rain and we will have colder here and it looks like rain returns on saturday. >>> 5:07 new this morning, burglaries are on the rise in one south bay city. jeanine della vega has more on where it is happening and how police are warning residents, jeanine? >> reporter: this is known as a green leaf neighborhood on 101 and t

. a little bit of wet weather and some of the drive will not be that great. steve said it will be a little breezy which another way of saying it will be windy. so be careful as you move along on causeways and bridges. driving south on 880 north up to downtown oakland traffic is fine and in hayward there doesn't seem to be any problems, traffic is moving well. here is steve. >>> thank you sal, our weak system is coming through and we have a very chilly pattern and some shower activity coming down from the northwest and this will favor areas closer to the west and off shore. at least the snow levels are much, much lower compared to a week ago when it was high. today colder, breezy, scattered showers and this time of year you have a low dropping down and it does not take much to get build ups. cool highs in the 50s. you can see -- not a lot to this system. it looks like it wants to leg the coast and on the peninsular as well picking up a little bit, not a lot. it looks like mill bray, i saw some now san mateo, hayward, again this is scattered stuff. 39 are the temperatures and the cold air is

to union city. that traffic is going to be a little bit slow now as you head south. let's go to steve. >>> a very good morning. a little breeze. that's an offshore wind. downtown oakland is 59 -- excuse me. downtown oakland is 60. the airport is 59. there's some areas up in mendocino county, lake county. for some it's mild to warm. for others, cold and patchy. >>> today, sunshine -- >> today, sunshine, lane comes in late, late tus -- late late tuesday, early wednesday. it won't be a lot of rain. nothing like we had a week ago. that's for sure. the cold air is on its way. today, cool, clear, patchy fog. cold to warm. sunny, mild to warm, breezy to windy. some of the higher elevations. a nice weekend and gives way to a nice monday and most, i think about half of tuesday. it's a dry pattern until wednesday and maybe even some low snow levels by the way as we get toward wednesday night. fair field, 30s, santa rosa. oakland, 59 at the airport. dipping below 50 at hayward. oakland/berkeley coming 0 the hills, it's a wind. the gulf alaska is coming into the picture it will be coming right a
on this monday. let's look at what we have on interstate 880, and it's windy as steve mentioned. i agree, just by looking, there are no major problems as you dry -- drive through and traffic is backed up beyond the 880 over crossing getting into the area. we have a trash at 280 and 87 and watch for the lane to be blocked northbound 280 as you come up on 87. it is not causing a huge traffic jam but it just might. >> we have patchy fog out to the valley and maybe off in santa rosa, and the county airport. definitely a northeast breeze coming off the higher elevations, mission peek and fremont. it will be the place to be downtown oakland, that northeast wind will help some but for others it is cold, sunny and mild to warm breezy at times. in santa rosa some are saying, what topline warm, it is 39 and there is 60 in downtown oakland and at the airport. 21 miles per hour at the oakland airport. mostly sunny, mild to warm, the dry was the end starts to change monday. i don't think it will be a lot. a quarterbacker 60s on the temperatures to 70-degree the oakland and it almost helps with an offshore

and the south bay. 85 slows at 87. 101 slows in pockets from the capital expressway. >>> let's go to steve. >> thank you, sal. we have low clouds coming in. this is on parts of the coast and moving south. it looks like it's about half of the san mateo coast. there is a ribbon of fog from the sacramento valley and san joaquin valley. our system kos not -- does not have a lot of rain but it has a lot of cold air with it. it will be moving in tomorrow. today we have low clouds, again, combination of the two. low clouds. it will be a cooler day even with sun for a while. sometime this time of year, when you get a cold front moving in. those clouds start to move in. clouds tonight and then -- it's a light rain coming in late tonight, tomorrow morning. .10, maybe .50 at the most. the snow level is coming down. this will be good news for the is sierra, shasta/lassen, they will get the snow levels. not a lot of snow out of the first one but we'll get the levels down to 4500 feet. it will turn much colder. it's already cold to the north. a lot of 30s from santa rosa, napa down to gilroy, 38. liverm
to steve. >> i always want to know where they are going, sal. >> they might be going. >> good morning, we have mostly clear skies, ukiah has some fog, more on the low cloud deck and this system is up there. it is the cold air behind that and the pattern is changing and the problem is -- well that is not a problem but the challenge is how much rain will we get and how long will the cold air last. i think santa clara valley and parts of the east bay get the sun but brief rain on wednesday and much colder. if there is any available moisture, snow level could get to 1,000 people to. they are holding on at 50 degrees. the system coming down now does not hold a lot of moisture so cooler today until clouds come in late this evening. sometimes you can get that low cloud deck to come in and it turns cloudy fast. we have lower 50s for highs probably in some inland locations. we have a westerly breeze and 56 for santa rosa. temperatures are coming down north and also east, pleasanton fremont and those 70s which are close to it are gone. clouds tonight, will not last long, a quarter of an inch and th

. southbound that traffic looks okay driving from concord to walnut creek. let's go to steve. >> sal, december, there are a lot of baseball things going on. >> yes, sir, i saw that. >>> we have a weak system coming in and upstream coming down from the northwest and this might favor coastal areas but we will mention scattered showers and we have pretty good cold air bumped up and we have light rain here, emphasis on light rain and it will push off east and south and we see a little bit of rain, danville, towards fremont and milpitas, not a lot, the cold air will be the big story. 40s and 50s and i expect to see some of these lows drop in the next few hours. the system is looking like this pattern is like a fast moving cold system not much rain but all the way to christmas and one of these systems gets stronger. it looks to be a good system all the way to tuesday. scattered showers, snow levels we can get a little moisture with 3500 feet. only in the 50s and that northwest wind with 50s and highest temperatures will be around the bay and also around the coast. chilly breezy day looks like late s
, 46, san jose 44 degrees. steve paulson will be here early tomorrow morning, beginning at 4:30, tracking the cold temperatures that start out near monday. high pressure is still in command of our weather. the dry weather pattern continues. it will be mild to warm for monday. this cooler air begins to sweep into the region. also a few extra high clouds. a major drop off in temperatures by wednesday. by wednesday, we will be tracking rain showers first thing for the morning commute. we could have patchy, dense fog develop, especially toward the central valley. even in some of the inland valleys once again. a few patches out there. partly, to mostly sunny for the afternoon hours. an increase in the cloud cover. no rainfall yet. by tuesday evening, the leading edge of the shower activity begins to push into the region, and spreading to the south first thing wednesday morning. also, a major drop off in temperatures, as that cold air moves into the region. still the possibility of a few scattered showers for wednesday afternoon. temperatures for tomorrow, mainly in the 60s. these

the city's manager lafayette city manager steve faulk has been out shopping for a new pipe. >> so this morning, my city engineer and i are meeting with teams of local contractors to determine who if anybody has the type of drain pipe that would be appropriate for that creek. and specifically, we're looking for sections of pipe that are 10 feet in diameter. and so it's not something that you exactly go to home depot and buy off the shelf. typically, you have to order these on a custom basis but we're searching the bay area and in fact all of the entire state to see if anybody has enough sufficient quantity of that size pipe to drop into that hole and if they do, we'll see if we can find a contractor to do it. >> reporter: the city council appropriated some emergency money last night for will faulk. he has a million dollars now from the general fund to get this fixed. earlier estimates that it would take months to do, city council says that's not good enough. they want it fixed as soon as possible. reporting live from lafayette, ken bastida in mobile5. back to you. >>> a woman ridin
